In Town Moving Advice
Are you about to move across town? While it might sound like an easy task, moving to any new location can be overwhelming, especially if you don’t plan it correctly. There are plenty of details to figure out long before moving day. The good news is, we can help. As professional movers, the Heroes Moving and Storage team is here to get you started on the right track. Here is our advice for in-town moving.
No surprise, our first tip is to hire movers. We suggest doing it long before your moving day, even if you are only moving across town. Finding the right mover takes time and investigation. Research reviews, experience, and accreditation to ensure you’re hiring the right mover for the job.
Clean Your Home
Once you move, your home will go to whoever purchased it or back to your landlord’s possession. It’s your job to make sure it is clean and ready to go if you want your deposit back. Grab your cleaning supplies and clean behind furniture and other hard to reach areas. Do a thorough inspection before you hand the keys off so you don’t get charged for any other issues.
Find a Babysitter/Doggy Daycare
On moving day you don’t want to deal with changing diapers, feeding children, or making sure the dog is out from under the mover’s feet. It’s a good idea to locate a babysitter or doggy daycare service before your move. It will make your day far less stressful.
Let Your Movers Meet Your Dog
If you plan on keeping your pets around, introduce them to your movers first. This not only makes your movers more comfortable, but it will also make your pets feel more secure with strangers in the home.
Prepare a Carry-Out Suitcase
In the chaos of moving, it’s easy to forget to pack a change of clothes, toiletries, and other necessary items. Separate some items you’ll need like shower curtains, toilet paper, soap and other items so you don’t have to search through boxes when you get to your new place.
Schedule Utilities Early
Since you’re moving across town it’s easy to schedule utility companies to turn on your cable, phone, and water early. Give them a ring before your move in day so you don’t have to fight with that on the day you move in. This gives you a sense of peace and home right from the start.
Keep Your Clothes On Hangers
This is a simple trick you can use if you aren’t moving very far. Leave your clothes on hangers and then wrap trash bags around the bottom and use the strings to crisscross across the top of the hanger. This insures they stay on the hanger and makes them easy to pack.
Eliminate Items You Don’t Need
It so much easier to move only what you need. Getting rid of excess items also makes your move more affordable.
Use these tips to make your in-town move much easier. As in-town movers, we’re happy to walk you through our advice in greater details as you like.
