Packing Tips to Save You Time and Money

8/20/2018

Moving is expensive, we all know this. But there are ways to save money. One way is in your packing. When you are looking for packing and moving companies you might assume that you only need to hire them and your job is done. Not so fast. You can use your own strategy to avoid expensive packing and moving fees if you play the game right. To get you started we’ve listed a few helpful packing tips to save you time and money on moving day.

Packing Tips to Save You Time and Money
If you have lived in your home for a significant amount of time, moving might cause you unnecessary stress. After all, your memories, as well as your belongings, are tied up in your home. With the right products at your disposal, however, it can be easier.

At Heroes Moving and Storage, we are committed to making your life as easy as possible.  Our team puts a lot of hard work into our packing services, but there are a few things you can do to speed up the process on your end.

-Start Packing Early
Don’t wait until the last minute to start packing your items. One of the biggest mistakes we see people make is failing to pack early in the process. Go room by room, starting with areas that store items like your closets, basement, and attics. Those items aren’t likely to be important early in the moving process.
Then start with your smaller bedrooms. Make sure every single item in that room is packed and cleaned before you consider it ‘done.’ This enables you to move through your home without going back over the same place more than once.

However, you’ll also want to make sure you have the right packing materials. Wardrobe boxes, for example, make it easier to pack up your closets. You can leave your clothing on hangers without worrying about wrinkles or dry cleaning once you unpack. You can also use suitcases to pack some of your clothing. It’s all about making use of the space you have.

-Use Plenty of Packing Materials
There is no such thing as too much packing material. You can easily reuse the packaging you purchase on your next move or recycle it after. The important point is to make sure your items aren’t broken during the move, which means using as much material as possible.

-Prep Your Items for an Easy Transition
Pack up your electronic items in the same boxes you purchased them in for the easiest move. If you don’t have it, then use a double amount of bubble wrap to protect your items.

-Mark items you don’t want moved
If you’re getting rid of items or need some of your belongings left out, then be sure to properly mark them. Medication, cable boxes, and other personal items need to be clearly marked to prevent confusion. This is especially true with documents that cannot be easily replaced.

If you’re planning a move and looking for packing and moving companies, we’d be happy to help. Give us a call to plan your move today.
